‘Plein Air’ starts June 4 in Hamilton County
By Anna Skinner
The Hamilton County Artists’ Association Gathering of Plein Air Painters will continue this year with its seventh annual event.
Mostly local artists but some from surrounding states will be painting around Noblesville out in the open for people to see. They paint June 4 and 5, and their art is judged on June 6 at the Birdie Art Gallery with possible prizes awarded. The paintings are sale that day as well.
Artists interested in participating can apply through May 20, and it costs $40 for HCAA members and $50 for non-members.
The event happens throughout Hamilton County, but is centralized in Noblesville. The award ceremony is open to the public at no cost. On June 6, the open viewings are 11 a.m to 2 p.m., and the judging is 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
“This event is for the artists to come in and get recognition, have their paintings viewed, possibly sold and definitely judged,” Nicole Tredup, chairmen of the event said. “But for citizens to come in, they are supporting local art which is becoming a big thing for Hamilton County. It’s about supporting the local artists and encouraging future artists, so there are huge benefits to both parties with this event.”
For interested businesses, there are still sponsorship opportunities for the event. Call Tredup at 414-6903 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The artists will paint throughout the two days, usually starting at 7 a.m. The daily paintings are said to end around 7 p.m., but Tredup said they can last well into the night.
